Iran’s human rights delegation visits Geneva

TEHRAN — An Iranian human rights delegation has arrived in Geneva to attend the 14th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council currently underway.
The delegation is headed by Mohammad Javad Larijan, secretary general of the Iranian High Council for Human Rights.At this session, the council will consider the final outcome of Universal Periodic Reviews undertaken on the human rights situations in Iran, Qatar, Nicaragua, Italy, and a number of other countries.
During the session the Iranian delegation will be given 20 minutes to talk about the council’s report on human rights situation in Iran.
On the sidelines of the session the Iranian delegation will also meet with the concerned officials from international organizations active in human rights issues as well as a number of officials from the United Nations.
Following its consideration of the reports, the council is expected to officially adopt those documents which include observations and recommendations to concretely improve the human rights situation in those countries.
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the UN system made up of 47 states.
